West Wales 23rd –25th May 2009

Outline Plan:

Meet up at Dale car park at 9am on the Saturday morning, we’ll be diving within Milford Haven on the Saturday and we will be diving as Milford Haven is sheltered from just about everything except the meteorological equivalent of Armageddon.

Sunday and Monday I expect we’ll again base ourselves at Dale but this may be subject to change if weather conditions favour us. I’d like, if we’re able, to go round to Little Haven and dive the Hen and Chicks and Stack Rock. So don’t disappear at the end of Saturday, I’ll do a mini-shout at the end of the day to let everyone know the plan for the following day.

Postcode for Dale – SA62 3RB (postcode for the Griffin Inn)

Dale isn’t big so once you drive in you’ll soon see the car park on your right with the beach on your left. I’m trying desperately to remember whether it’s a pay and display or free but for the life of me I can’t remember, so take some change just in case. Dale has a nice little pub and a small cafeteria, so you can easily get warm food and drink. There’s also a public convenience for those in need.

Dive Sites:

There are a number of dive site within Milford Haven which are available to all levels of diver, these include the Dakotian and Behar wrecks, a number of u-boats and then some very pretty diving around Thorn Island and the odd scallop bed or 2 if my memory serves me right.

Outside Milford Haven there are a plethora of dive sites and many known and unknown wrecks. You can imagine how many ships came to grief on the cliffs when they missed the entrance to Milford Haven. The sites I have in mind include Skokholm Island, which has a nice wall dive and somewhere called seal bay, the cliffs underneath St.Anns head have some good diving as well.

Further round we have the Hen and Chicks and Stack Rock dive sites should we be able to work out of Little Haven. Both sites are good scenic dives with the chance of seeing seals.

 Air Fills:

Unfortunately West Wales Divers is now closed but I have a contact, who will be letting us store a boat in his field and has a compressor on site, Ivor the Diver at Venn Farm. So they’ll be a cylinder run at the end of each day.
